Meet 26-year-oldLimpopo-born Mirriam Kgole, the founder and owner of Liomi Perfume, one of the few wholly black-owned perfume manufacturers in South Africa. Mirriam carefully formulates and hand mixes a range of organic and synthetic oils to create an oil-based, alcohol-free perfume that is long-lasting but not harsh on the skin. She ensures that her perfumes use raw materials that are sourced only from local South African suppliers.
She had a professional background in the perfume industry and while there, she learned that when it comes to international brands, consumers are paying highly inflated prices for the brand, more than the scent itself. And so the desire to create a brand that allowed women to smell expensive at a reasonable price was born in the form of Liomi Perfume.
The Fourways-based company, which has been operating for 2 years now, also prides itself on creating job opportunities for other women by signing them on as representatives to resell the stock for themselves. Look out for Liomi’s online shop which will be launching on March 10 and maybe you’ll bag something from their 50% off sale on the day.
Nothing gives me more joy than empowering other black females.
Hats off to you Mirriam for going up against the big guns and building a brand that is growing in leaps and bounds by the day!
