Meet the talented Botswana-born One Rapelana, the founder, creative director and designer of jewellery line Xita. She discovered her artistic nature as a child through sketching and taught herself how to design accessories in addition to being a graphic and web designer.
In 2015 she took a leap of faith, withdrew her savings and quit her job to launch her business and focus on it full time. Her fascination with geometric shapes and experimentation with different types of fabric is evident in her unique statement neck pieces.
The Tlokweng-based business has a unique design aesthetic and hopes to branch out into décor in the years ahead. One says she wants to expand the business beyond Botswana and an online shop is in the works to service the South African and international markets.
No one is going to hold your hand so you have to work twice as hard to get where you want to be and you need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable because its part of the process.
Xita offers one-of-a-kind statement jewellery, don’t miss out on this growing African business. Check out @XitaDesigns on Instagram for news on where the next pop-up shop will be.
