This is Tebello Kutoane, an attorney, and founder of legal consulting firm Co-Intelligence. The company, which provides legal solutions for small to medium-sized businesses, was started by Tebello who felt suffocated by working in a traditional law firm.
The focus on billable hours weighed heavily on her well-being, turning her into an anxious and timeline-obsessed individual. Adding to that was the frustration of being a young, black woman in a predominantly pale male environment.
Co-Intelligence was birthed out of a need to empower and represent black women in the industry who were undermined and sidelined. “I want to create a platform where a black, female attorney can be judged on merit and not what she can do for a company’s BEE rating”.
Tebello’s plan is to employ young black attorneys, mentor them and equip them for the difficulties that come with working in the legal profession. Her company promises a relaxed working relationship for people who don’t want to deal with a lawyer in a suit.
Tebello says Co-Intelligence is just the beginning of her legacy and she plans to expand the business to incorporate other advisory divisions and offices across the country.
